Commercial Building Exteriors: Concrete Painting

Happy New Year! Are you a business owner with big plans for 2018? Our commercial painters at Pro 1 can help you with your resolutions. As you may already know, first impressions can make a huge impact on your company’s success. One way to ensure a great first impression is to hire Pro 1 to handle your commercial exterior painting. If you happen to have a building with a lot of exterior concrete, you know that this could be a big and exhausting job. With our professional painters, however, it will be your easiest resolution to keep.

Why Worry About Your Concrete?

A concrete exterior is classic and strong, but it is susceptible to weather damage and normal wear and tear. If the inside of your business is expertly branded and professionally painted, some clients may see neglected concrete on the outside and refuse to come inside. As we said – first impressions matter! It is important to note, however, that painting concrete is not the same as painting drywall. More steps and care are required. If this isn’t something you are familiar with, this project could be time consuming and stressful. Fortunately for you, it is something our painters are very familiar with.

What Makes Concrete Different?

Concrete surfaces vary in porosity (how porous they are), absorbency, and cleanliness. Because extra steps are required, painting concrete will generally take longer than painting drywall or other surfaces. Our painters at Pro 1 are not only knowledgeable, but they are also able to work around your business hours. We know that painting projects can sometimes cause difficulty, but when we paint for you, we work to make things run as smoothly as possible, for you and your customers.

When painting concrete, the first step is cleaning. This isn’t as simple as a quick wipe down. We’ll use a quality cleaner to remove oil, grease, and dirt. If the concrete isn’t properly cleaned, the paint will not adhere correctly. We will be sure to remove any old paint or powder as well. Once the concrete is cleaned, we use a quality concrete primer (called block primer). Primer will help even out the surface of your concrete so your final coat of paint is smooth and beautiful. The block primer takes two hours to dry, but it requires another minimum of eight hours before it should be painted over.

Now that the concrete can be painted, we recommend masonry paint (also called elastomeric paint). This kind of paint is thick and helps fill in imperfections commonly found in concrete. It’s also recommended to wait a day in between coats. Now that you know how much work goes into painting concrete, don’t you want to take this chore off of your new year to-do list?

Our commercial painters will complete your exterior painting project with the utmost quality and professionalism. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to call and inquire about the painting of your business’ concrete, there is no time quite like the present.
